Sizing Information

We tried on a selection of these gloves in the shop and we think they fit consistently with the major American designed brands we carry such as Tour Master, Joe Rocket, FirstGear, etc. which are “normal” in fit and size, so we advise you to pick the size you normally wear in gloves of this type. If you are between sizes, we’d advise you to choose smaller.

Hopefully you have some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.

Our Two Cents

There is definitely a lot going on with this new Hypersport Pro glove. The overall design is much like other race gloves we carry from Alpinestars and Held. I’d characterize this design as being more “rugged” than those other styles. The European glove styles like Alpinestars/REV’IT!/Held have many of the same features and use similar materials, but they feel and look more “refined” than these gloves. By “refined” I mean the shape and fit are more tailored and exact and there are a lot of armor bits and pieces that aren’t on these Icon gloves such as a hard palm slider and a third finger bridge, etc. Of course the cost of these gloves isn’t up in the $300 range either…

But these Icon gloves weren’t made for the race track. They are aimed more for the very aggressive street rider, and they certainly feel like they’d provide good protection and they look great too. The palms, like a LOT of race gloves, are made of Kangaroo which has a great reputation for providing good abrasion resistance without too much thickness and the hide also resists rot and cracking from human sweat (yuck, I know), which makes it an ideal material for race gloves. The other parts of the glove are a combination of leather and bold molded rubber/plastic parts to beef up the impact protection. The gauntlet has a LARGE molded piece around the outside of the wrist that really feels tough, but it is positioned well and doesn’t bother movement of the wrist. Of course the knuckles and backs of the fingers have heavy duty protectors too. About the only part of the gloves I noticed were lacking in armor was in the palm, where, as I mentioned, most glove makers will have a slider to promote sliding on the pavement rather than twisting. But for street use, maybe Icon felt the speeds are lower and that is less of an issue for the intended purpose, I dunno.

The full gauntlet style fits well and feels good on, and has plenty of adjustment in the cuff and gauntlet. The gloves also have a great deal of stretch leather material on the backs of the fingers. I think the amount used is a bit over the top, but really becomes a styling thing rather than a functional thing. Anyway, overall, I like this glove and I think the price is fair. It is a good choice for a street rider looking for race glove protection without the high tech fanciness that the European brands offer. :: Paul, 10-23-14
