Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. For most people, you would choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). The size Med and XL fit Huey and Dewey very nicely!

The taper of this jacket is about average (meaning how much smaller the waist/belly is than the chest), and will be great for nearly any type of street riders. Alpinestars’s sizing chart lists the recommended waist range and the jacket has a lot of waist size adjustment. Judging by the way the jackets fit and the numbers in the chart, we feel the “waist” sizes they list could more appropriately be considered belly size ranges. Your actual jean size waist could be smaller than what is indicated and you’d still be OK.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 37.5 to 39 36 to 38
Medium 40 to 41.5 38 to 40
Large 42 to 43.5 40 to 42
XL 44.5 to 46 42 to 44
XXL 47 to 49 44 to 46
XXXL 49 to 51 46 to 48
XXXXL 51.5 to 53 48 to 50

Our Two Cents

When I sat down to write to you about the Lucerne jacket style, I wondered what this jacket and a Buick had in common (the Buick Lucerne) and what that might tell me about the jacket. No help! Here is the definition: A resort on Lake Lucerne, in central Switzerland; pop. 59,000. Ok, so now I’ll just tell you about the jacket: This jacket shares a lot of the attributes I bragged about in the Koln jacket, its 3/4 length cousin, except this jacket is a waist length style. I’ve always thought Alpinestars offered very high quality products. You can see it in the material, construction and the technical details. But unlike a lot of other Alpinestars jackets, this one offers a great deal of value too. For the price, this jacket is in line with other brands that are considered to be lower price point products. I very much like the overall look. It is a very clean/crisp style, but it is not boring. The “tone on tone” approach to the colors and textures give the jacket some visual interest. And the Fluorescent Yellow color choice will appeal to those that relish visibility. The jacket has a water resistant shell, but it is not waterproof. You get a removable waterproof inner liner for times when you’ll be surely soaked. Making the waterproof barrier removable offers a couple advantages in comfort. A jacket without a built-in waterproof barrier breathes better and will be more comfortable for the vast majority of times when you are NOT in a downpour. The jacket will be lighter and more flexible also. For warmer weather use, there are zippered vents in the front and back. They are large and should do a good job of flowing some air (take the “View Larger Images link and you can see them in detail). There are some larger reflective materials on the front and back for night time visibility. A couple little features you’ll grow to appreciate: there is a nifty little keeper built into the collar that keeps the velcro-close collar tab from flapping in the wind (and driving you crazy). Anything that helps to not drive me crazy is appreciated! Also, I like the very functional sleeve and waist adjusters which work better than ordinary snap-type arrangements. :: Paul, 09-27-11

This is a great CA winter jacket for sport riders who want night visibility (fluorescent yellow coloring + highly reflective strips on front/sides/rear). The jacket is composed of very dark gray and black textiles. The water proof liner can be r... (Read more...)
