Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fit very well. I also verified some chest and belly measurements and found those to also be in line with what you’d normally find in American men’s clothing. So, we recommend you buy the size you normally wear in US men’s clothing.

For REV’IT! gear, it is not the “norm” for it to fit like US men’s clothing. We’ve found most styles fit small by about 1/2 to one full size, and the chest sizes they list in their “standard” size chart are about one size small for each alpha size listed as compared to normal US sizing. Why is this jacket sized more like American clothing than their other styles? I dunno… my job is to report the facts.

Anyway, below is a chart we put together that shows the REV’IT!-published chest sizes for each jacket’s alpha size (which are incorrect for this model) along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style doesn’t taper a whole lot from chest to waist… only about 2”, so most people won’t have to worry about whether the belly area will work for them, but for those who do have an ample belly, we list the max size for each alpha size so you can make sure the size you choose will work.

Our Two Cents

The REV’IT! Airwave jacket, as compared to the many other brand mesh styles we carry, is really the Cadillac… er… should I say the BMW?? of the simple mesh style summer jacket. Many of the features you see on this jacket are common to all other brands’ summer mesh jackets, but the overall build quality and materials used in this jacket are among the best. Of course the price is a bit higher, but you all know how that old story goes… you get what you pay for, right? The mesh material used in the jacket is a tight weave that has a nice “slick” finish that doesn’t look like mesh. It makes the jacket look more tailored and feels more structured. In likely impact areas, there is a solid textile material of a complementary color. The jacket should be VERY comfortable in hot weather and that is what this jacket is primarily made for. The jacket comes with removable CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows. Want the whole outfit? You’ll also see the Airwave pant below. You can zip the pants to the jacket and you’ll have a great looking 2pc suit. If you aren’t using the connection zipper, there is a belt loop strap in the lower rear of the jacket. You get the usual complement of pockets. The upper bicep area and sleeve cuffs are adjustable in fit. Overall, this is a sharp jacket that is simple but well made. If you enjoy quality construction and don’t mind paying a bit more for it, then you’ve found a contender here. Be sure and take the “Images” link above to see some interesting shots of this jacket including some nighttime shots to show off the reflectivity. :: Paul, 03-08-13

Note About Back Armor: In Spring of 2014 Rev’It! made a decision to stop including an EVA foam back pad in their jackets because they are preparing to conform to recent European standards that will require every part of a garment to provide a minimum level of protection and they anticipate that the foam back pad previously offered would not meet the requirement. As an option, you can purchase a CE certified back protector. The armor pocket shape in this jacket will accommodate the Seesoft unit, size KN106 (see choice below) :: Paul, 04-09-14

Nicely made, looks stylish, good features. Only thing I didn't like was it zips on the wrong side, but I guess that's how it's done across the pond! My go to jacket for hot weather riding.

I bought both jackets to see how they both stack up since they are both currently in the $200 range(The Icon jacket is on closeout). My build is 6", 130lbs, and 30 waist. The Compund jacket is the perfect length with the drop-tail, more protective... (Read more...)
