Sizing Information

We bought samples of these jackets and measured them and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. For European sized jackets, you can generally just subtract 10 points from the size to get the corresponding US chest size. But REV’IT’s published size chart indicates that their jackets are sized a bit smaller… especially in the larger size ranges. In other REV’IT! styles we found this to be true, but with THIS JACKET it is NOT true… This jacket runs much larger than REV’IT!’s size chart or other European sized jackets we have experience with.

I’m told this jacket was designed for the US market and therefore the sizing is different. Ok, I get that… Americans are typically larger than Europeans, but why not just offer larger sizes and keep the sizing consistent with your other products? Oh well, maybe they’ll reconsider with future models, but right now, our job is to do the best we can to quantify the sizing of this jacket for you.

What we’ve done is take a standard REV’IT! size chart and add a couple columns to estimate the max chest and belly for each jacket. Using our estimates, you’ll be able to pick a size that should fit. Use a chest measurement first and pick a size that is large enough to accommodate you. We offer the max belly sizes too. The waist of this jacket will adjust down so it will work for a wide range of people. Overall, the jacket is very square cut which means there is very little taper from chest to waist. This will work best for stout builds and won’t work so great for thin builds or those whose waist tapers a lot from their chest size (generally referred to as “athletic”).

In our close-up pictures, we are using a size 54 on our Fit Check mannequin Dewey. He normally would wear a 46 to 48 US (XL in alpha terms). In a European size he typically wears a 56 and has worn a 58 in REV’IT!’s 58 (which has been running a bit smaller than most European sizes). From the chart, you can see that I would have picked a 52 for a tight fit or a 54 for a more roomy fit. The 54 looks pretty good on him with a slightly loose fit.

Our Two Cents

The REVIT Tornado is a great multi-season jacket. It will take you through anything from hot to cold and wet. Consider this jacket to be a good choice for three seasons. Primarily, it will work best in very hot weather. Most of the outer shell is a very open weave mesh that should allow a LOT of air to flow. Solid textile material is used in areas that would most likely be called upon to provide abrasion protection in a fall, but even having solid textiles there won’t hinder the air flow much.

How about for cooler weather? Or wet weather? Well, there is a very nice “windbreaker-style” windproof and waterproof removable liner that comes with the jacket. It has a light insulation to it, so not only will its wind-stop outer shell shut down the air flow to your body (through the mesh shell), but it also provides a thin layer of insulation for warmth. The liner can be used separately as well (just over clothing) which will be a handy thing for touring riders who want to keep the packing to a bare minimum.

Other things to like… we tested the jacket’s nighttime reflectivity in our studio and included a couple shots of that in our photo gallery (take the View Larger Images link above), and this jacket did great. At night you’ll be glowing like crazy!

Like other REV’IT! styles, this jacket uses high quality zippers and the finish work is excellent (hence the price). The armor is upscale too… Knox CE armor in the shoulders and elbows. There is a pocket for an optional CE certified back protector (see below). The jacket is made to go with the Tornado Pants (both stylistically and functionally), so take the link below to view those if you are interested in a full outfit. (Most of the original Tornado pants are on sale, but the Tornado 2 pants will work with this one as well). :: Paul, 11-06-12

Note About Back Armor: As an option, you can purchase a CE certified back protector. The armor pocket shape in this jacket will accommodate the Seesoft unit, size KN106 (see choice below) :: Paul, 04-09-14
