Sizing Information

We tried this jacket on our Fit Check mannequins and thought they fit great. Huey is wearing a Medium and Dewey is wearing an XL (take the “View Larger Images” link above to see those pictures). We also measured a selection of jackets. Based on those checks, we recommend you buy the size you normally buy in men’s clothing. If you want to check for size based upon a chest measurement or the size you wear in a suit coat, then please use the chart below.

These jackets are primarily for street riders and so they have a fairly “relaxed” fit. The jackets taper slightly from the chest to the belly/waist… about 4”. If you have a bit of a belly, you might want to check yourself with a tape to make sure the size you select will work. Example: a size XL will accommodate a 46” chest and the max belly is about 42”. If your belly/waist is trim, you can use the Velcro side adjusters to snug it up around your mid-section. Using those Velcro adjusters actually adds some style to the overall look of the jacket so don’t be concerned.

Here is Tour Master’s chart. Sleeve lengths listed are from the shoulder seam to the end of the arm cuff.

Alpha Size Max Chest Size Sleeve Length
XS 38 25.5
Small 40 26
Medium 42 26.5
Large 44 27
XL 46 27.5
XXL 48 28
XXXL 50 28

Our Two Cents

Update: We bought all the Lawndale jackets as soon as we heard they were going on closeout. It’s a unique jacket that looks even better in person. The buffalo hide will break in and you’ll have yourself a true retro classic! :: Paul, 05-17-16

You’ve heard the old saying about hanging onto your old fashions because everything comes back in style, right? I remember carrying some “classic” jackets by FirstGear and Vanson about ten years ago that looked a lot like the new Lawndale jacket by Tour Master. We’ve got a lot of new styles in the store these days that have a retro vibe. Those 3/4 leather styles I mentioned above were VERY EXPENSIVE jackets back in the day, but I am surprised at how affordable the Lawndale is. The leather is buffalo, which I don’t recall seeing before in our store. The leather has more of a “vintage” look and feel to it than typical cowhide. It has a semi glossy finish, but it has a bit of “wrinkle” to it and is not as thick as cowhide (thank goodness, otherwise it would weigh a ton). The leather is relatively soft and should break in nicely. The overall fit is “standard”... not too sporty, but not baggy either, which is a good mix for a jacket that carries the vintage look, but must be functional for motorcycling. Speaking of functional, you get some climate control features… zippered vents. Two vents on the upper chest, two in the underarms (sorry I missed those with the close-up pics, oops) and one long exhaust vent in the upper back area. For colder weather use, the jacket comes with a full sleeve thermal liner. The entire liner comes out when you don’t need it and you can even zip off the sleeves to get a bit more control. I’d recommend a jacket like this for warmish to cold weather, but not hot weather, and of course for dry weather because the leather won’t react well to getting soaked repeatedly. A longer jacket like this can have lots of pockets and this one does. Take the “View Larger Images” link above and you can see all those. There is a short rear zipper for connection to Tour Master or Cortech pants with a compatible zipper. Overall, I really like this jacket for “the look” and the value. :: 11-08-12

Note about color: We are comparing the two colors of this jacket side-by-side today after a customer inquired whether he got the right color in this style. The difference between the black color and brown color in this jacket is almost indistinguishable. The “brown” is a very deep, dark chocolate brown, which could easily pass for “black”. The only other difference in color is that the brown jacket has antique brass snaps and the black jacket has silver snaps. :: Paul, 11-15-13

Armor upgrade suggestions: Cortech makes a simple foam back armor insert which will work perfectly well with the Lawndale. We also find that the D3O brand armor pieces fit well too. It turns out the Men’s size back pad fits when installed upside down. The D3O shoulder and elbow inserts fit well too. The D3O is offered in two thickness. For a non-race style jacket like this, I’d suggest the thinner versions of each armor type, but if the max protection is your goal, then the thicker, level 2 inserts will work just as well. See those options listed below.
