Our Two Cents

The S-Zero Race Boots from TCX provide a lot of protection for the money, perfect for the sometime track rider or even for aggressive canyon carving. We have been really impressed with the quality and value that you get with TCX, and the S-Zero is no exception. TCX makes two versions of the S-Zero Boot. The only difference between them is one has the waterproof breathable membrane built in, while the other does not. The TCX S-Zero is a very substantial boot for the price. It will be well suited to track days and aggressive street riding. Being a sport oriented boot, it has a fairly stiff sole which provides excellent feedback from the pegs and controls, but can make walking long distances a little uncomfortable. This is thanks to the Metatarsal Control System®, which is designed to prevent the foot from being bent back in a crash. The toe-box and heel cup are nicely reinforced in these boots, while there is some external armor protecting the ankle bone. The shin is also protected by some polyurethane material, and there is a non-replaceable calf slider built in to the upper as well. Along the toes there is a replaceable toe slider as well. Although these boots are on the stiff side and they do provide a lot of protection, they are still fairly easy to get in and out of, thanks to a simple YKK zipper entry and Velcro upper. So for anyone looking for a boot that can handle day to day riding as well as track day use, the TCX S-Zero is a great option. The Icon Field Armor Mil-Spec Vest provides a high level of protection (thankfully not crash-tested yet) while allowing me to ride without a full jacket in the Florida heat. Its getting to the point in the seasons where I have to wear this over a leather jacket, but it is comfortable even then. The hi-viz yellow definitely helps me get seen by the somnambulent drivers around here. (Read more...)

The AGV Dragon Gloves look awesome and ended up working out but the Gauntlet opening is small, making it hard to get it over the suit arms. The stitching on the inside was rough too. For the price I think they are good though. (Read more...)
