Sizing Information

We tried the size XL in this jacket on Dewey. This is the size he normally wears and it fit great. We also put a tape on the other sizes to double check them and they measure out OK as compared to Speed and Strength’s size chart.

The chart provided by Speed and Strength shows chest sizes for each alpha size that are a bit larger than what you’d normally see for “standard” conversion from chest size to alpha size and perhaps the jackets are cut a bit large, but given the casual style, I’d advise you to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Size Small Medium Large XL 2XL 3XL
Chest 38-40 40-42 42-45 46-48 49-52 54-55
Sleeve 32 33 34 35 36 36.5

Our Two Cents

The Urge Overkill jacket looks to be for the more adventurous riders. The style is a bit longer than a standard sport jacket and drops particularly far in the back. This style leans toward offroad and adventure styles. The outer shell is a durable and a bit heavier-than-usual nylon material that feels very rugged. The shell has waterproof zippers for the pockets and zip vents so the shell will be the first barrier to rain. And then between the outer shell and the inner mesh liner is a breathable/waterproof barrier, so the dual effect should keep you dry (or as dry as any non-raingear type jacket can get). All this rain protection means though that the zippered venting on the jacket will only have a marginal effect for cooling, so my advice would be to consider a jacket like this for cold to warm weather (but not hot weather). Inside the jacket, there is the usual compliment of removable armor for the shoulders, elbows and back. There is also a “moisture wicking” removable full sleeve liner. I’m not so sure about the function of this liner…. it feels like very stretchy thin velour material and is unlike anything I’ve ever seen used as a liner. I suppose it would have insulating ability but not much. And seeing how this jacket isn’t heavily ventilated, I don’t see a lot of air being channeled through this, so I’m not sure where the moisture would wick…. but anyway, I’d suspect the person buying a style like this is going to have plenty of outdoorsy clothing to try wearing under the jacket. Maybe you’ll really like the liner. Let me know and I’ll include some comments here. The nighttime reflectives here are very good. We’ve taken a couple “night shots” you can see by taking the “View Larger Images” link above. You can also see the hood. The hood will be useful off the bike perhaps, but it won’t be of much use when riding (assuming you wear a helmet) because it is not the very thin type that fits comfortably under the helmet and it isn’t big enough to go over (besides that would drive you crazy, right?). But fortunately the hood is removable so you can take it off and stow it if you like. Overall a very nice jacket with a certain “style” for the adventurist in you. :: Paul, 08-06-13
