Sizing Information

We spot checked a couple sizes with our Fit Check Mannequins and they fit just fine. I’d advise you to pick the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. The loose-fit nature of this hoody makes it pretty easy to get the right fit.

Our Two Cents

Speed and Strength has been going “all in” with the hoody idea the last couple new product cycles. This new Bikes are in my Blood Armored Hoody/Vest is a new variant for 2016. The title says most of what you get here… a hoody with some armor and a vest to go over it. If you’ve read my “two cents” on the other hoody styles, you see some discussion about the crash worthiness of a cotton hoody with armor. The armor is very good… much like what you get with most other modern protective jackets, but the “structure” for holding the shoulder and elbow armor and the abrasion resistance of a cotton hoody aren’t great.

With this hoody/vest arrangement, the hoody is topped with a vest that has some nice features and does have better “structure” to hold the back armor. The material is heavy canvas… much like work gear like Carhartt jackets, and has some other useful and thoughtful features: 1) The vest has a back pad included. The included back pad is removable, and so if you wanted, you could remove it from the vest and install it in the hoody (when you don’t wear the vest). Also, there is a large zipper in the back lining of the vest to allow a tailor to add your patches or colors on the back of the vest super easily; 2) I see three zippered exterior pockets and one gun specific pocket inside (see our photos to get the ideas); 3) Snap-close loops to attach the tail of the vest to a belt (and there is a duplicate set of straps in the hoody); 4) Plain/low banded collar that won’t drive you nuts in the wind; 5) a strip of nighttime reflective on the back across the shoulders.

So obviously the hoody and vest are made to work together, but the hoody alone would have the same functionality as the other non-reinforced hoodies if you transferred the back pad. And the vest would work over other jackets you may have which would give you the gun pocket and possible club colors with your other jackets too.

So with this combo of vest and hoody, you get more of the features you’ll appreciate for riding, but it also gives you some flexibility in wearing the two items with other garments. The only downside I see is the lack of abrasion protection in the cotton sleeves. Overall, I think it’s a nice addition to the hoody theme from S&S. :: Paul, 08-09-16
