Our Two Cents

The Assault Jacket offers a host of features for convenience, safety and climate control. For a jacket with so many features, it feels good on…. roomy yet not restrictive or bulky. And thankfully, Scorpion didn’t go hog-wild with the graphics; the styling is sharp without being over-the-top (just one man’s opinion of course). Starting with the climate control system: the jacket’s shell is a sturdy ballistic nylon which is water resistant (but not waterproof). The shell has four large zippered vents on the front and two on the back and should admit a decent amount of air and be pretty comfortable in warmer weather. To handle cooler and/or wet weather this style is made with two removable liners. The first is a full-sleeve waterproof windbreaker-style liner. It will help block cold air from reaching your skin and it will keep you dry in case of a rain. And when temps drop further, there is a lightly insulated vest-type thermal liner that can be installed inside the waterproof liner. The vest is lightly insulated, but combined with the waterproof liner it should do a good job. If it were more heavily insulated, I think the combination of the liners would become too bulky, but these aren’t. With some additional clever zipper work, it might have been possible to design the shell to accept just the thermal vest without the waterproof liner, but its a no-go on that. Oh well… I think the overall design of the jacket is excellent for one that goes so far with the climate control features (most aren’t nearly as neat and tidy in their designs). For commuters and tourers, the jacket includes a good bit of storage, with cargo pockets on the chest and hand warmer pockets. For protection, this jacket is fitted with removable EXO-TEC CE-approved armor in the shoulder, elbows, and back. There are also reflective logos and piping for increased visibility.
