REV'IT! Airwave Pants

We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and developed the table below to help you choose a size that is right for you. The waist sizes we are showing are a bit smaller than what REV’IT! publishes in their literature (just an FYI) and a bit smaller than you might expect if you were choosing the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. Since they run a bit small in the waist, especially in the larger size ranges, we used the “caution” designation on this model.

These pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, and we found the inseam measurements to match the published figures so we’ve included those also. The pants have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length). Velcro allows you to set the armor in different spots and you can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position seems best. Neat!

Also, the pants have a set of Velcro adjusters at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We are showing a three inch range which was about what the adjusters seemed to do.

Measurement tips: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles (so relying just upon the size jeans you buy might result in motorcycle pants that are too small). Right below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement.

Use as overpants: These pants will likely be used as both overpants over street clothes or as pants over underwear or shorts because many riders will be wearing these in the heat of summer. Since the waist of these pants is relatively high (as discussed above) the waist will ride above the waist line of normal jeans and therefore, I don’t think you will want to up-size with the idea of using them as overpants. But, I would advise that if you are pushing the upper limit of a size or you are between sizes, to choose the larger.

If you are looking for a dedicated hot weather riding pant that will be comfortable, stylish and provide crash protection, this will be a good choice. This pant is a simple design compared to a lot of summer pants we sell. Many styles will include removable liners… some are waterproof and others are insulated. But these pants are made for the hot weather and to move the max amount of air you can move and still provide good protection. A simpler design means the pants can be tailored for a more flattering fit (they don’t have to leave a lot of extra room for removable parts). A large portion of the pant is mesh fabric and the wind can blow right through (those are the areas on the Silver/Anthracite color pants that are a bit darker). Patches of sturdier solid material are used on the knees and the hips to give more abrasion protection. The pants come with removable knee armor (which is height adjustable as discussed above) and there are pockets for optional hip armor. The overall construction is simple, but very sturdy and of high quality. The pant waist is nicer than most because it has a zip that goes all the way to the top of the pant and then has a closure over that which further secures the waist closed with a snap and a hook. No popping open! There are two functional waist adjusters on the waistband too. The pant legs have two long zippers you can open to help you put these pants on over street clothes quickly (hidden on the insides of the legs). You can wear these pants over underwear, light clothing or even jeans, so they’ll be very adaptable. With a bit of under-layer, they’ll be usable in the fall or spring too. Overall, I really like the looks of either color in these pants. Of course they go perfectly with the Airwave jacket, but you could wear them with any gear too. And the price for a pant from a high quality manufacturer is very reasonable in my opinion. :: Paul, 12-10-12

Note About Hip Armor: In Spring of 2014 Rev’It! made a decision to stop including EVA foam hip pads in their pants because they are preparing to conform to recent European standards that will require every part of a garment to provide a minimum level of protection and they anticipate that the foam hip pads previously offered would not meet the requirement.
