Sizing Information

We put the size Medium on Huey and the XL on Dewey and both fit just a bit on the large side. So we decided it would be wise to measure the chest and belly of each size so we could give you the best advise.

Please use the chart below to choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. The max chest sizes listed will put you in the same size you normally wear or one size smaller than you normally wear, which confirms our initial assessment that these run about one half to one size small. As you can see in the size chart, the sizes up to about XL run about one size big, but in the very largest sizes, they run pretty true to Joe Rocket’s size chart.

If you have a bit of a belly, you can check that too. The max belly for any given size is about 4” less than the stated chest size.

The fit of the jacket can be adjusted to a pretty large extent. There are two Velcro-close straps on each side of the waist band, and then there are a total of four snap-close adjusters for the overall size of the arms. These are used to snug up the arm fabric to fit your arm size and therefore help hold the armor in position and prevent flapping of excess material at highway speeds.

Our Two Cents

The Rasp jacket is a sport style textile with a lot of features… some very unique! Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see see some good shots of this jacket. The armor overlays on the shoulders are above-and-beyond the normal CE protectors included for the shoulders and elbows. While I would doubt they add a great deal of impact protection they certainly make a bold styling statement. Another unique styling feature is the use of the printed textile material in the body. It is sort of subtle, but it looks vaguely like a printed circuit board?? Anyway, it helps jazz it up a bit. Speaking of materials, the body of the jacket is made of a variety of textile materials. The materials on the impact areas are a bit more substantial than otherwise. The less thick materials in non-impact areas helps keep down the stiffness and weight of the jacket which makes it more comfortable. The venting incorporated into the torso by way of zip-off panels along with the zippered biceps vents will make this jacket comfortable in hot weather. When completely zipped off, the mesh area in front is pretty darn large and would do a terrific job of moving some air through. If you are riding in mild temps, the front panels can be partially opened as well. There is a small snap on each side which allows you to zip down the panel part way and pin back the panel to allow air flow through a triangular shaped opening (see the close-up pics). And in winter, you can zip-up and install the full sleeve-type insulated liner (included) to help keep warm. :: Paul, 09-14-12

The JR Rasp Jacket is a great jacket. It is a bit on the large side (very generous American cut), but it is not overly so. I absolutely love the zip out panels for greater airflow. (Read more...)
