Our Two Cents

Granted, we only have an odd selection of sizes and colors, but what a bargain! Consider this jacket for guest passengers or youth (many small sizes left). My comments from previous seasons on this style: The Meteor jacket is one of Joe Rocket’s best selling designs. It combines safety, good looks and convenience features all in one affordable jacket. The short waist style with pre-curved sleeves is a favorite for sport bike riders. For safety, the jacket features removable dual density armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. The shoulder and elbow pieces are kept in a zippered pocket which is accessible from the outside. The pocket is formed with a second layer of “Rocktex” material in those areas (so in the critical crash areas, you’ve got two layers of abrasion resistant fabric and the armor pieces). The sleeves have a neat adjustment feature that lets you snug up the arms to hold the armor in position and keep the wind-flap to a minimum, but for those with muscular arms, the adjustment tabs can be left in the open position. The Meteor 4.0 is designed to be an all-weather, all-season riding jacket. It claims waterproof construction (but I’m convinced that it’s darn near impossible to make a completely waterproof jacket like this, so we’ll say “water-resistant”), with a double entry zipper and closure flaps over each zipper to help keep moisture out. For hot weather, you can use the front zippered vents and the rear zippered exhaust vent (to help prevent “ballooning”). But for cold weather, you can use the zip-in full sleeve lining. For convenience, all the zippers, flaps and such have large molded rubber handles that can be operated with gloves, but they are soft as to not hurt if the wind moves them. The jacket has some nice styling touches too: a raised collarbone pad adds some pizazz and the JR jacket identifiers on the jacket are less noticeable, but very tastefully done. The jacket zips to Joe Rocket textile pants.

My son's Meteor jacket has been a great year-round jacket. It gets a little warm in the summer, so for the hottest days he switches to my old Phoenix jacket, but most of the time, this is his "go-to" jacket. Fits well, armor stays in place and he ... (Read more...)

This is a very visible jacket. The green color really stands out and on my first ride I gave it a good test for water resistance. Driving through a downpour the jacket kept me dry through our ride in heavy rain. (Read more...)
