Sizing Information

We found these jackets to fit true to size. They are a roomier cut (as most Joe Rocket jackets are), but there are plenty of adjustments to snug down the fit. Please see Joe Rocket’s Sizing Chart for size estimates.

Our Two Cents

The Joe Rocket Ballistic 8.0 jacket is a “do it all” type of jacket. It’s not as bulky as some touring jackets (not quite as many pockets), but it would still work quite well in that role. Because it’s not as bulky it would also work well as a commuting jacket or even for more spirited rides. This jacket also has excellent weather protection and adaptability for different climates you might encounter. The Ballistic 8.0 is completely waterproof, and all of the exterior zippers are waterproof as well. Now, for climate control, there are some pretty neat features. First of all, this jacket should do very well in colder weather. There is a fully sleeved insulated liner and the main zipper has a double storm flap behind it which should keep unwanted air (and water) out of the jacket. When things start to warm up, you can remove the insulated liner, and open the ventilation. The Ballistic 8.0 has the Big Air System, which is basically a large mesh opening behind the main zipper, effectively creating a full length torso vent on the front (you fold the storm flap back out of the way when using the vent). In the rear there are two zippered exit vents to let hot air escape. This jacket also offers quite a bit of adjustability. The bottom of the jacket and the sleeve cuffs both have Velcro to keep the wind out, and the middle and upper torso both have adjustable Velcro belts. The sleeves also have snap take ups for any excess material on the arms. These features all help to reduce drag and flapping in the wind, as well as keeping all of the armor in the right places. Speaking of armor, the Ballistic 8.0 has CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows, as well as a dual density foam back pad (all of which is removable). For exterior storage, there are two zippered chest pockets, two hand warmer pockets, and a cargo storage pocket on the lower back with a 9 inch zipper. On the inside of the jacket you will find a zippered document pocket and a cargo pocket as well.
