Sizing Information

We tried this style on Huey and Dewey (our size Med and XL test subjects, see our review of the Overlord GSX-R jackets) and we found the jackets to fit very nicely. We need to caution you about the size chart provided by Icon though because it lists smaller-than-standard chest sizes for each men’s alpha size. For example, a Large jacket in men’s clothing will usually accommodate a 44 chest but going strictly by this chart, for a 44 chest you’d choose an XL. We think the alpha sizes represent the true size of the jackets and the chest size for each jacket in the chart is understated by about 2”. Our advice then: just choose a jacket based upon the size you normally wear in men’s clothing and give less concern to Icon’s estimated chest size. This jacket is only slightly tapered in the torso, so waist/belly issues won’t be much of an issue.

Here is the size chart provided by Icon for this Overlord mesh version:

Size Sleeve Chest
Small 31 36-38
Medium 32 38-40
Large 33 40-42
XL 34 42-44
XXL 35 46-48
XXXL 36 48-50
XXXXL 37 52-54

Our Two Cents

Icon’s got a theme going with the SB1 Mesh version of the Overlord series. This jacket follows the theme of the Airmada Sportbike SB1 helmet (link below). Most of the body of this jacket is mesh, so consider this one for mild to hot weather use. This jacket will flow a LOT of air in the front torso and sleeves and out the back. When weather is a bit cooler, you can use the vest type thermal liner to get some insulation and block some of the wind. AS IF the vivid colors and graphics weren’t enough, Icon has added a number of molded plastic parts on the jacket. If you take the “View Larger Images” link above you can see all these in detail. There are molded protectors on the back, shoulders and elbows and some beefy molded Icon letters front and back. This jacket is super comfortable and easy to wear. The fit is easy too (once we straighten you out on the sizing chart… see above). The overall fit is not too sport and not too relaxed in my opinion. Nearly any style rider would be comfortable wearing it. The jacket offers the normal armor setup for the shoulders and elbows and it has a back pad (which has an upgrade if you like… see below). We sell a lot of “hi viz” jackets these days because people want to be seen on the road, but a lot of people don’t really want the traffic cone look, so here’s your alternative! I like them. :: Paul, 09-15-12
