Sizing Information

We tried this style on Huey and Dewey (our size Medium and XL test subjects) and we found the jackets to fit very nicely. We need to caution you about the size chart provided by Icon though because it lists smaller-than-standard chest sizes for each men’s alpha size. For example, a Large jacket in men’s clothing will usually accommodate a 44 chest but going strictly by this chart, for a 44 chest you’d choose an XL. We think the alpha sizes represent the true size of the jackets and the chest size for each jacket in the chart is understated by about 2”. Our advice then: just choose a jacket based upon the size you normally wear in men’s clothing and give less concern to Icon’s estimated chest size. If you sometimes are between sizes, then choose the larger.

One other note of caution on fit… the forearms of this jacket have substantial padding built into the shell of the jacket and that thickness added to the thickness of the elbow armor makes for a snugness in the arms. If you have “average” to skinny arms, you’ll be fine, but guys with thick arms will likely have a problem with fit in this style.

Here is the size chart provided by Icon for this Overlord textile version:

Size Sleeve Chest
Small 31 36-38
Medium 32 38-40
Large 33 40-42
XL 34 42-44
XXL 35 46-48
XXXL 36 48-50
XXXXL 37 52-54

Our Two Cents

The Overlord Resistance jacket by Icon takes the standard abrasion resistance to a new level of styling. This jacket is also more substantial feeling than other jackets in the series. If you take a look at our close-up photo gallery, you’ll see that this jacket includes a number of molded rubber “paneling” pieces in the design. Also there are a number of raised panels that have pretty substantial padding incorporated. So these extra materials add heft and sturdiness to the jacket that I haven’t seen with Icon’s other mesh styles (or mostly mesh). Speaking of mesh, most of the shell of this jacket is a flow through material so you can wear this jacket in pretty hot weather and feel very comfortable. For cooler weather, this jacket includes a removable thermal liner. It is a vest-type liner, so it will help with warmth in the torso area. The armor in this jacket is excellent. We carry D30 armor in our armor department and it is very well liked. It is thin and flexible and therefore comfortable, but it has the property of becoming very stiff upon impact and it will effectively spread out impacts over a wide area which helps the rider to absorb impact with less injury. If you like the extreme styling of this jacket, I think you will like it overall… it is substantial and has better than average protection capabilities. :: Paul, 10-28-13
