Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit well… if anything, a bit snug. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing if you are an average to slim person. Those with broad shoulders or a bit of a belly should check the sizing chart before choosing to make sure your “normal” size will offer enough room in the chest and belly. If not… go up a size.

If you look at Icon’s size chart, you will see that the chest sizes listed are a bit smaller than what we see for most “alpha sized” jackets. This is a more sport fit and they do fit slimmer than some other brands. This interpretation of fit is what we see in many “European cut” jackets.

The arm length and torso length are generous. Not overly-long, but this jacket will work best on people of average or above-average height. Average to slim builds will like this where burly types might not. In summary: Average to tall, average to skinny will like. Short and stout probably won’t.

This table lists Icon’s estimated chest sizes for each “alpha size” which we find to be accurate. We’ve added a column to the table below to give you our estimate of max belly size for each jacket size.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 35
Medium 38-40 37
Large 40-42 39
XL 42-44 41
XXL 46-48 45
XXXL 48-50 47
XXXXL 52-54 51
XXXXXL 54-56 53

Our Two Cents

The Device textile jacket is Icon’s “toned down” textile style. Take a look at our photo gallery (take the “View Larger Images” link above). The amount of badging, external features, etc is very minimal. This is a trend I see more and more these days. Street and cruiser riders will like this look as well as more urban commuters. Functionally the jacket is all there and much like any other textile style like this. The shell is a solid construction without venting, so consider a jacket like this for colder to mild or maybe even warm weather use (but not hot weather). For the colder weather it does come with a very nice removable vest-type thermal liner. The liner itself feels thicker than most. The jacket does not have waterproof construction of any kind, so check the forecast and pack a rain jacket or you’ll be wet. Of course this jacket comes with the usual removable armor in the shoulders and elbows along with a dual density back pad. One little feature that I’ve not seen before… take a look at the close-up of the pocket zipper. They have a little rubber “garage” for the zipper in the closed position. No-scratch, no-hang-on-things? Not sure, but they are kinda cool. :: Paul, 09-14-12
