Sizing Information
Choose a jacket size based upon what you normally buy in men’s clothing. If you want to measure yourself to help pick a size, have a look at Alpinestars’ sizing chart. Unlike most Alpinestars jackets, the Messenger jacket is a straight cut, and fairly roomy at that. It does not taper down at the waist, so your belly size can be up to about the same as your chest size with this jacket.
A note about the neck: The neck on this jacket goes up quite high and we found it to be a bit tight, so people with thicker necks will need to leave it partially open.
Our Two Cents
Here’s a jacket that doesn’t look like your usual motorcycle apparel. The Messenger Jacket is designed to pass as a “business capable” jacket – perfect for commuters, and I suppose, messengers as well. This jacket is best suited to cold to mild climates, as it does not have any kind of ventilation and the waterproofing will block a lot of wind. For cold or wet climates, this jacket seems like it would be great. A fully sleeved insulated liner is included for warmth, and the 3/4 length means you get plenty of coverage. The main zipper also has a storm flap with (unusually) strong Velcro, to further protect from the elements. For storage there are four cargo pockets on the front of the jacket, as well as three interior pockets – plenty of places to carry everything. There is a waist adjustment belt which adds to the overall style of the jacket, and the main zipper is two way, so the jacket won’t bunch up on you in the riding position. The arms are also tailored with a pre-curved shape which helps keep things comfortable. There is CE approved armor for the shoulders and elbows – but no back protection can be installed in this jacket (you could wear a strap-on back protector if you wanted).
