Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. For most people, you would choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). The size Med and XL fit Huey and Dewey very well. To see how those two sizes look on our fit check mannequins, just click the “View Larger Images” link above.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 37.5 to 39 31 to 32.5
Medium 40 to 41.5 33.5 to 35
Large 42 to 43.5 36 to 37.5
XL 44.5 to 46 38 to 40
XXL 47 to 49 40.5 to 42
XXXL 49 to 51 43 to 44.5

Our Two Cents

Here’s an affordable textile style from Alpinestars that will work well for those who ride in cooler and/or wet weather. The AST-1 has a whole host of features to make riding comfortable in less than ideal conditions. The jacket is made with an integral waterproof lining which is situated between the jacket’s outer textile shell and the inside mesh lining. This type of lining does a great job because there are no penetrations in the lining to allow access like with jackets that attempt to make the outer shell waterproof (with all the zippers/vents, etc to muck it up). But, this type of construction is only suited to mild to cold weather because there are no provisions for venting. The jacket comes with a full sleeve, very nice thermal liner which should provide a lot of insulation for very cold temps. The jacket comes with CE protectors in the shoulders and elbows and foam pads for the back and chest (upgradable, see below). The overall style of this jacket is sharp. I like the stylized AS logo across the chest with the white background which looks really modern. We’ve taken some “night” shots so you can see the reflective piping in action which will make you more visible at night. Just take the “View Larger Images” link above to see all those close-up pics including the night shots and fit check shots. Overall, a very high quality and capable jacket for the money.
