Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. These are the sizes they normally wear and both fit great. My advice would be to wear the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

If you look at Icon’s chest size estimates for each jacket, you might be choosing a size larger than you normally wear (example a person with a 46 chest typically is an XL, but using Icon’s chart you’d buy an XXL). Icon’s styling has always been sort of loose as compared to other brands’ sport style jackets. This probably explains why the size chart understates the chest size range for any given alpha jacket size.

My personal advice for a good fit that is snug enough not to flap or inflate while riding would be to buy the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. We’ve added a column to the table below to give you our estimate of max chest and belly size for each jacket size. If you prefer a loose fit, then Icon’s estimates would be appropriate.

I find the taper from chest to waist to be pretty “relaxed” and therefore belly size won’t be a problem for most. But if you have a bit of a belly, you’ll want to get a measurement and make sure to choose a jacket large enough to work.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Chest Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 38-40 38
Medium 38-40 40-42 40
Large 40-42 42-44 42
XL 42-44 44-46 44
XXL 46-48 46-48 46
XXXL 48-50 48-50 48

Our Two Cents

Icon’s Raiden UX waterproof jacket has a feature not found on virtually any other jacket… is has a waterproof shell AND the fabric has a bit of stretch to it. Feature-wise, this jacket is pretty similar to the Raiden DKR jacket. The DKR uses a heavier waterproof nylon shell which is a more traditional construction material. The UX, with the lighter weight and slightly stretch material will appeal if you want something just a bit more athletic and easy to move in and not quite as heavy. .And just like the DKR, this jacket offers direct venting so you’ll have a good deal of functionality to work in a variety of temps.

Check out the styling on this jacket. It has a sharp honeycomb print on the main body with solid color accents elsewhere. And then it has the wide branding down each sleeve that gives this jacket more of an off-road feel.

As I mentioned above, the shell of this jacket is a waterproof laminated fabric so the waterproofing membrane is integral to the nylon shell material. That means there is no separate internal waterproof lining. The advantage is that the shell of your jacket doesn’t get waterlogged, but rather repels water. Also, the zippered venting on this jacket allows air to flow directly through to your body which is much more effective than zip venting on jackets with a separate lining. And remember, unlike most other jackets, these properties are offered in this jacket in a lighter and slightly stretchy frame.

You’ll get the zippered vents on this jacket to get some cooling in warmer weather. While I’ve seen jacket with more venting, this one is still pretty good. You get two huge zip vents under the arms which extend down to the elbow and then part way down the side of your rib cage. And then there is a large horizontal vent in back to let air escape and to also reduce the possibility of inflation of the jacket at higher speeds. For colder weather use, this jacket has a full sleeve thermal liner. And its a better one than most. It has mesh panels in it that allow air to flow through the vents. This will be useful to help the interior expel moisture in cooler temps when you are using the liner, but might otherwise get a little sweaty. With this setup, you can crack open some vents and stay cool and dry. One other oddity to point out… the removable thermal vest is hi viz orange. I guess maybe they think you could use it in a pinch to be very visible?? But you can’t wear it OVER the jacket so it would only be useful as a visibility item off the bike. Maybe their choice to make it orange was one of those “why not” decision.

You get a complete set of armor inserts by D3O which is Icon’s “go to” brand of armor. The armor is ideal for a jacket like this since it is soft and flexible and comfortable. The hood on this jacket is for use off the bike. It has a stiffener in front to help water drip off the front (and not down your face). You can zip it off if you don’t need it. That big vent zipper in back also doubles as a large fanny pocket. You could store the hood in there when not in use. :: Paul, 05-07-18

Icon says: Steeze and all-weather protection are not mutually exclusive. Inspired by the rally jackets of our heroes, the UX is constructed with a 4-way stretch HYCOR waterproof/breathable chassis. Completely seam sealed, it provides an all-conditions envelope for dual-sport riders. The athletic fit provides mobility, durability, and a new paradigm in the ADV scene. A quilted removable liner has mesh panels located just behind mechanical vents for air movement. Removable hood protects from the rain and unfortunate helmet hair, while a full D3O® impact protector package does the dirty work.
