Sizing Information

We find TCX boots to be very consistent in fit from one model to the next. We checked this boot and it too is consistent with other models. To choose a size, please click here to see the TCX size chart. The general width of TCX is “medium” or D to E. To compare to other brands you may have experience with, I’d say the overall fit is somewhere between a Sidi boot which is generally a bit more narrow and an Alpinestars boot which has a more generous width.

Our Two Cents

Right out of the box, I like the looks of these shoes… they’re leather! Over the years I’ve been “schooled” that the synthetic leather materials are better for motorcycle boots and shoes because of their resistance to water and increased abrasion resistance, but call me old school… they just don’t look as good as a nice leather shoe or boot.

I’m testing the black one today and I find the fit to be consistent with other TCX boots and VERY comfortable. A full lace boot like this allows you to really get the right snugness to fit your foot all around. The combination of the slick black leather and suede accents is sharp and gives the boot some interest. (Note: The Dakar brown boots don’t have the suede inserts, they’re solid leather). On the back of the foot at the top there is a fabric insert that makes the boots comfortable around your ankle for walking right out of the box.

I sometimes call out “sneaker” designs for motorcycling because they are just too flimsy, but I find these boots to be fairly substantial feeling. The ankle protectors on each side are large and well padded. The heel is nicely reinforced and the toe is “somewhat” reinforced. I’m not saying these shoes will be as protective as a good boot, but they are better than average, and if this style of boot is what you are after then I think these stack up well against similar style boots in terms of overall protection.

The boots have an internal liner to make them waterproof and the tongue has a gaiter up to about the ankle. A short boot like this wouldn’t be the thing to get for frequent riding in wet weather, but for the occasional rain, you’ll have a good shot at dry feet (as long as your pants give enough coverage that is).

With the “better than average” protection features and the sharp looks of real leather, and considering the reasonable price, I would very much recommend this new Ace boot. :: Paul, 10-27-16
