Sizing Information

We in the sales office tried a selection of these boots on and found them to run true to the stated US shoe size. If anything, they are a bit snugger than expected. If you were debating whether to buy one of two sizes, I’d advise you to buy the larger.

The overall width was a bit more narrow than Alpinestars motorcycle-specific boots. I’d estimate these are C to D.

Our Two Cents

These new Monty boots are another entry into a recent trend I’ve seen of motorcycle boots that are styled to be somewhat fashionable and urban. These boots are made with a slightly “antique” look to the leather (on the brown color at least), which gives the boots an upscale look… much like men’s boots you might find in an upscale department store.

These boots have reinforcements on either side of the ankle bone. The toe and heel areas have stiffening materials under the leather, but I didn’t find it to be any more reinforced than many street boots or work boots. Frankly, I was expecting a bit more. The sole seem appropriate for most ordinary street riding and there seems to be proper stiffening in the shank area.

These boots have a traditional lace closure with (what feels like) cotton laces. That is a great closure system for boots because you can customize the fit better than single side zip boots. Also the laced on boot is unlikely to fly off in a crash. The only negative I see is that there is no “keeper” to cover the lace ends to prevent snagging the laces on your bike. Lots of boots aren’t designed with something to prevent this, but if you have ever hung a lace on a peg, etc, you’ll appreciate the issue.

These boots don’t have any waterproofing capability and quite frankly, even if they did, I’d hate to see you soak them. The leather finish is so nice, I’m afraid some of that “patina” might be reduced by getting them wet.

So the Monty is yet another entry into the street/retro/fashion boot market. All the ones I’ve seen look great and feel great and are in the same general price range. Most have the “lace getting hung on something” issue, so there is no standout there. I think it all boils down to overall styling among the pack right now; those by TCX, REV’IT! and Alpinestars are all competent choices. :: Paul, 06-11-15
